Join The New York Classical Theatre, as they journey with King Henry and his army from England (Castle Clinton/ Battery Park) and travel across the English Channel (New York Harbor) by boat to France (Governors Island), where the bloody Battle of Agincourt will be staged across the huge rolling vistas of the parade ground surrounding historic Fort Jay with a cast of 40!

Saturday, July 23 - Let's Fly a Kite at Governors Island

Breezy shores and open fields are the perfect formula for flying a kite – on Governors Island, of course. The Alliance will host its annual Let’s Fly a Kite day on Saturday, July 23. There will be hundreds of free kites for everyone who gets there early enough. Island staff and volunteers will help young kite-nauts assemble their craft and launch them.

Saturday, July 23 through Sunday, July 24 - 6TH ANNUAL PEAK EXPERIENCE ULTIMATE SLEEPOVER ADVENTURE AT THE RUBIN MUSEUM

Forty children will work together to confront the physical challenges, dodge the perils, experience the culture, and practice the team dynamics of climbing Mt, Everest (in the form of the Rubin’s signature 6-level spiral staircase covered with “snow,” “ice,” and “rocks” that threaten to avalanche). Veteran Mt. Everest climber Robert Anderson will be joined by Sherpas, Rubin Museum guides, and some of the world’s most experienced Everest climbers to lead these young adventurers through the basics of camping, safety, teamwork, and leadership skills necessary in high altitude climbing. Together they will explore Himalayan art, Sherpa culture, and learn about mountaineering etiquette.

Tuesday, July 26 - 'Building Blue' at the Skyscraper Museum

In anticipation of the release of Sony Pictures "The Smurfs," the Skyscraper Museum is hosting an event during "Smurf Week." The Smurfs are moving to the big city! Kids will design and build a smurf-sized skyscraper village for the little urban adventurers featured in Sony Pictures "The Smurfs," in theatres July 29, 2011! Join us at The Skyscraper Museum to learn about the New York City sites featured in the film and build a skyscraper of your own.

Lotte From Gadgetville is a sweet and gentle-spirited crowd-pleaser, full of wacky contraptions, silly/happy songs, and a refreshingly un-cynical sense of humor. Lotte is a cheerful girl-dog who lives in the seaside town of Gadgetville, a village crazy about inventing. Every year there is a competition to show off the best homemade Rube Goldberg-esque machines, which Lotte's father Oscar always wins. But at this year's competition, the town is abuzz about the Japanese bee Susumu, who introduces Gadgetville to the concept of judo. After the town becomes obsessed with the sport, Lotte and her three friends try to help Susumu get back to Japan, where they plan to test their new skills in an international judo contest

Saturday, July 23 - Colors 'a la Cart'

"Colors a la Cart" invites families to explore a collection of natural dye sources, centuries-old dyeing recipes, as well as paints made from natural dyes. Children will learn the secrets of the dyers' apprentices and see for themselves which colors came from leaves, roots, and husks, and which came from bugs. They will discover if bugs should be smashed or boiled, and how artists stored color in fabric.  This drop-in program coincides with the Morgan exhibition Illuminating Fashion: Dress in the Art of Medieval France and the Netherlands (May 20 through September 4, 2011).

Join us for a 2-day design-your-own Layer Cake workshop. Focus on baking the perfect Vanilla, Chocolate and Red Velvet Cakes and whipping up fluffy Butter Cream Frosting.
