Back to School Time

This week many kids in the area returned to school - this was exciting for my family because my son started kindergarten!  With the hectic school schedule in full swing we look forward to the time we get to spend together at family-friendly events in the city.  If you have a younger child at home there are some great activities going on during the week to keep them entertained. Here are some tips and highlights for the week ahead:
  • Throughout the city and around the country people will be commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  Check the list of events below for ones that may be appropriate for your family.  If you do live in the vicinity keep in mind that there will be many street closures and pedestrian impacts that day.  Visit batteryparkcity.com for the details. The Memorial opens to the public on Monday September 12, 2011 with the reservation of a free visitor pass online. For more information, visit 911memorial.org.
  • If the rain continues into the weekend, the New Museum First Saturdays for Families  and the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Family Day at MOCA are great choices for Saturday.
  • Readers with school age children should take some time to read the 'I've Finished My Homework - Now What?' article by the founder of Competitive Advantage Tutoring to learn how to make the most of your child's education.
  • UPDATE:  The Jimmies' World Release Party on 9/17 was cancelled!

Have a great week!

~Jessica

Instead of letting this be their normal routine, we fully encourage you to help them to stay focused on their academics.

Each day they should not just shut their notebooks when finished with homework assignments. Daily reviews refer to the little extra step that they can take to ensure what they were taught by their ...

My Day at Citibabes' Summer in Style Event

Featuring some of our fabulous local businesses

On a beautiful day in August my family attended the Citibabes' Summer in Style event in support of Baby Buggy.  There were plenty of activities to keep the kids busy and I had the opportunity to learn more about some great local businesses.

My son and husband were on a mission to find the Super Soccer Stars the moment we walked through the door.  And that is where they spent the next two hours!  The coaches encouraged kids of all ages and levels to participate in the games and drills ...

Fall Programs at the YMCA of Greater New York

Affordable Fun for the Whole Family

Like many families my two young children want to try all sorts of new activities. During the fall they may love soccer and ballet but by winter they want to do swimming or piano.  I want to encourage them to try new activities so they can find something they really love, but the cost of classes in the city can make it challenging.  I recently spent some time browsing the new fall brochure for my local YMCA and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of programs and reasonable prices.  Not ...
