New York’s own “action heroes,” STREB Extreme Action stretch the limitations of the human body. Choreographer and MacArthur “genius” award recipient Elizabeth Streb will take over the Armory’s expansive Wade Thompson Drill Hall with Kiss the Air!, a performance of new large-scale works that incorporate ziplines, ladders, trampolines, hoops, and bungee cords. Among the works will be Ascension, which encompasses a 21-foot turning ladder on which nine dancers attempt to balance. Human Fountain features sixteen performers leaping from a three-story scaffold to create the effect of a human Bellagio Fountain.

Sunday, December 18 - East Meets West Christmas Parade with Valarie D’Elia

We attended this last year and the kids loved the Annual “East Meets West Christmas Parade”. The Parade reflects the culture and heritage of Lower Manhattan’s two major neighboring ethnic communities – Little Italy and Chinatown, which recently were designated as National Historic Neighborhoods. One of the largest parades in Lower Manhattan, this colorful and festive procession will feature eight floats; marching bands; Chinese Lion and Dragon Dance troupes; Chinese Opera performers; acrobats; pop singers; and marching groups representing local organizations from the Little Italy and Chinatown  communities; Little Italy’s Red Mike Festival Italian Brass Band;  and, of course, Santa Claus.

Embratur, the Brazil Tourism Board, heats up holiday shopping with a tropical oasis in Madison Square Park! To provide New Yorkers with some warmth and holiday cheer, Brazil will be forgoing the traditional snow globe, by setting up a life size “Sunball” in the middle of Manhattan. Visitors of the Sunball will be able to warm up their feet in the imported Brazilian sand, feel the Brazilian sun and pose for a unique Brazil Sunball holiday card. After completing their visit to the Sunball, visitors can upload their holiday card to their Facebook page, email it to family and friends or receive a print copy of the card.

The Three Bears Holiday Bash

  • Where: Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park (81st St and Central Park West)
  • Description: The Three Bears Holiday Bash is a variety show that celebrates the holiday season in song, dance, and puppetry. This production quickly becomes a comedy of errors when Baby Bear invites Santa to star in Mama and Papa Bears’ annual holiday show.  Drawing from the stories of Hanukkah, the Night Before Christmas, and Kwanzaa, The Three Bears Holiday Bash is a great way to get into the holiday season spirit. 
  • When: Nov 14th - Dec 30th, Mon - Fri. at 10:30 & 12pm; Wed. at 2:30pm; Sat & Sun at 1:00PM with additional shows on Nov 25th & Dec 27th-30th.
