Find Great Family-Friendly Events to Kick-off 2012

Despite ending the year with a trip to the ER, the holiday break and all of 2011 were filled with many positive changes for my family. I am looking forward to even better 2012!  Thank you for all of your support in the past year and please help Macaroni Kid continue to grow by spreading the word and feel free to email feedback, event recommendations or topic ideas anytime.

After a cold, busy week it is tempting to just spend this weekend inside. Nice idea in theory, but in reality by mid-morning on Saturday we are all looking to get out of the apartment so luckily there are plenty of great events during this first full weekend of 2012. Here are a few ideas:

  • Circus in a Trunk opens this weekend at the intimate Canal Park Playhouse.  You can enjoy brunch in their little cafe before or after the show!
  • Find out what is going on at your local library, in addition to the many story times there are also quite a few special programs going on this week.
  • Get your tickets now for the Kids Food Fest, happening Jan 21-22.  General admission is free, but you need tickets for the hands on cooking classes.

Have a great week!

Jessica

NYC is My Backyard trip to the AMNH

Here's what my 5 year old thought about his outing...

The American Museum of Natural History is really the only museum worth going to in all of NYC according to my precocious almost 6 year old.  This is a view shared by many of his friends and I totally understand this point of view.  It is a museum full of very large versions of what they play with at home.  Our collection of dinosaur & animal figurines grows year after year and are never put away long enough to collect dust.  The gems & minerals collection is even more exciting since they ...

Friday, January 6 through Sunday, January 8 - The Assassins Chase Pinocchio

A Multimedia Performance for Kids & Adults based on Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio. Immediate Medium’s psychedelic re-imagining of Collodi’s original 1883 text is definitely not your grandmother’s Pinocchio. A mashup of original music, projections, live video compositing, masks, found objects and Italianate gibberish, The Assassins Chase Pinocchio fractures the storytelling tradition into an immersive multimedia experience for all.
